A Beloved Classic

August 21, 2012

We all know the story of the Selle Italia Turbomatic saddle. In 1980, Selle Italia let loose a saddle that was, for the first time ever, ergonomically correct; and it totally changed the game. Everyone rode one, from the Pros to the average Joe. Then one day, it ceased to exist. We were left to dig through used bins, hope for hand-me-downs, and eventually, scour Craigslist and eBay to find the posterioral support we craved. Throughout the years there had been special edition releases, but they were limited and as such, hard to get your hands on a new one. Then finally, in 2010 (after constant nudging by a man who loves purple), Selle Italia re-released it. You may be thinking, this is all old news, why do we care? Because it's important to remember what we have come from. To reflect on the days of drought, so that you can be grateful for the days of plenty and get your hands on one while they are still around! The Turbo is extremely ride-able on a forward seating, racy set up; and not bad at all for a more upright, just cruising around town, posture. Aesthetically, the Turbo is simple, efficient elegance. But don't take my word for it! Try one out for yourself.
